A woman who fell to her death from a Texas rollercoaster has been identified as Dallas resident Rosa Ayala-Goana.

Tarrant County's medical examiner has said Ayala-Goana, 52, suffered "multiple traumatic injuries" after falling from the Texas Giant on Friday.

Witnesses said that before the fall she had been concerned that a safety bar was not fully secured.

Six Flags Over Arlington has said the 14-storey ride will be closed until their investigation is complete.

The amusement park, located outside Dallas, has also said it will not comment on the death until then.

German rollercoaster maker Gerstlauer Amusement Rides told the Dallas Morning News it was sending its own team of investigators to Texas.

The US does not have an agency that enforces safety standards on rollercoasters and other permanent amusement park rides, and the Texas Department of Insurance is only required to ascertain rides are covered by insurance.
